REPOSTED: Star 94 Changes It’s Image And It’s Sound
NOTE: On September 23, a crash affecting the blog caused most of the posts on From The 404 to be deleted from the website. Some of the posts, including this one, have been recovered and re-edited for reposting on the new From The 404. Updated information on this post follows the original story.

Atlanta Hot AC station WSTR Star 94 FM has a new image to go with its new sound.

Last week, From The 404 reported that the Audacy-owned radio station has been shifting its playlist more toward a more current-intensive Hot Adult Contemporary positioning and tightening its on-air imaging after years of changing sounds, slogans, and styles.

Now it has a new logo to go with the latest change in direction.

The new logo is noticeably similar to its old ’90s logo during its super-successful CHR days. Star has been replacing its former “The Rhythm of Atlanta”/”Feel Good Throwbacks” era logo on its website and social media accounts today.

This is Star 94’s 36th year as the moniker of WSTR 94.1 FM. Before then, it was known as WQXI FM “94Q”. The station has always been a CHR, Adult Contemporary, or Hot Adult Contemporary station, except during the 80s and 90s when it famously ran its then-popular contemporary jazz show Jazz Flavors on weeknights.

Audacy has not commented on Star’s new image at the time of posting.

Update: Since this was originally posted earlier this summer, the changes at Star 94 now also extend to the mornings, where the station has added The Bret Mega Show, which stars Bret Mega, a former host at crosstown WWPW, co-host Anna “AB” Bohlmann, and Chris Smith, the show’s producer.  The Bret Mega Show replaces The Kevin [Avery] and Taylor [Scott] Show, which was cancelled by Star 94 after 11 months on the air earlier this year. This is Star 94’s ninth morning show since Steve McCoy and Vicki Locke held the morning rush on the station during the ’90s. The “new sound” referenced earlier refers to the station’s move to Hot AC under the guidance of new program director J.R. Ammons, after being a rhythmic Hot AC, then a classic hits station.
