WSTR, Star 94 emerged from the shadows of 94Q on November 15, 1989, after 12 years as a Top 40 station. As Star, it embraced a more adult-formatted approach to top 40, sans hip hop and dance music. The station would move to a more mainstream top 40 again with the demise of Power 99 in late ’92, and became Atlanta’s core hit station into the ’90s. Star 94 would add Steve McCoy (ex Z93) and Vikki Locke in the mornings. Two local radio legends, Tom Sullivan and a very young Ryan Seacrest, were heard at the station during this time.
After years as a mainstream Top 40, Star 94 took a rhythmic oldies turn in 2020 and has now moved to mostly a variety hit classics station.
