WSTR FM (“Star 94”) has done some tinkering to its musical positioning.
The station hasn’t confirmed its change in tempo, but Radio Insight reports the station has shifted from oldies-based rhythmic AC to a more current, “brighter” adult contemporary presentation. Tracks by Taylor Swift, Huntr/X, and Justin Bieber were added to the music mix, which now goes back to the late 1990’s.
Here is what Star 94 was playing in the 7 pm hour tonight:
7 PM: The Script-The Breakeven
7:04 PM: 24Kgoldin/Iann Dior – Mood
7:06 PM: Lady Gaga -Bad Romance
7:11 PM: Alex Warren-Ordinary
7:21 PM: *NSync-I Want You Back
7:24 PM: Dua Lipa-Break My Heart
7:28 PM: Macklemore/Ryan Lewis-Thrift Shop
7:31 PM: Avril Lavigne-Complicated
7:35 PM: Eminem-Without Me
7:46 PM: One Direction-Night Changes
7:50 PM: Oasis-Wonderwall
7:55 PM: Maroon 5-Animals
7:59 PM: Billie Eilish-Birds Of A Feather
Star 94 took a more rhythmic direction in September 2020, calling itself “The New Star 94: The Rhythm of ATL.” But since then, Star has been moving increasingly out of dance and towards “feel-good” adult contemporary sounds. Ed Sheeran‘s “Shape Of You” was the most played song so far this year on Star, according to All Access/Mediabase, followed by Miley Cyrus‘ “Flowers” and Justin Bieber‘s “Peaches”.
This change puts Star more in line with its Cox Media Group-owned competitor, WSB-FM (“B98.5”), which has been an Adult Top 40 formatted station for several years.
