Star 94 Parts With Kevin and Taylor, More Changes Brewing? (Updated)

Audacy’s Atlanta Adult Contemporary outlet WSTR “Star 94” has parted ways with its morning duo, Kevin Avery and Taylor Scott.

The change occurs less than a year after they took over the AM slot at the home for “Feel Good Throwbacks”. Avery and Scott almost immediately joined Star 94 last September after they lost their previous morning show at crosstown WFSH {“The Fish”}, which they hosted for 25 years. The Christian Contemporary station was sold to K-Love last year and is now an Air 1 station. Both were inducted into the Friends of Georgia Radio Hall of Fame last year.

“It is true that we are no longer with Star,” Avery and Scott jointly posted on social media. “A new manager is bringing a new vision for what he wants for the radio station, and we are not a part of his vision.”

That new manager is JR Ammons, who has been confirmed to be overseeing the station, which segued from Rhythmic to Mainstream AC earlier this summer.

“It’s sad and unfortunate, but it is part of the business, and we understand. We are incredibly grateful to YOU and all of our K&T listeners that have followed us on our journey, and we are grateful for the opportunity at Star. Stay tuned and keep us in your prayers as we find our next home,” Avery and Scott added.

Radio And Music Pros, an online radio trade publication that broke the Star 94 story Tuesday evening, adds that Audacy Regional Program Director Ammons is now in charge of the station. Ammons is a 30-year radio vet who’s VP of Programming for Audacy in Kansas City and Brand Manager for KHMX in Houston. He leads content, operations, and branding for multiple Audacy markets. He once programmed Star 94 from 2008 to 2010.

The station’s last Brand Manager, Emily Bolden, exited earlier this year.

No confirmed word yet on who will replace Avery and Scott in the AM shift and when, but there could already be a potential replacement lined up.

RAMP also reports that The Bret Mega Show, an afternoon program based in KYKY St. Louis, is relocating to Atlanta. RAMP has not been able to confirm if the program will be aired on Star 94 going forward. The show features, according to Audacy, “fun, unfiltered on-air family sharing personal stories, listener confessions, and daily entertainment.” It’s hosted by Bret Mega, Hannah Gibbs, Anna Bohlmann, and Kevin Berghoff. It also airs in Wichita, KS, Kansas City, and Philadelphia, the latter two markets in the mornings.
