Beau Bock was a fixture in Atlanta sports media, dating back to 1970’s.
He did sports reporting at WQXI AM-FM (when it was 94Q) on Gary McKee’s morning show. Then, in 1980, he joined WAGA TV as a sports commentator for three years. Then he headed crosstown to WSB TV to helm sportscasts at that station for an additional three years. He then re-joined the local sports radio circuit, where he hosted at 680 The Fan in January 1992. After four years there, he returned to WQXI AM, 790 The Zone, where he was based for more than 14 years. He co-hosted a popular afternoon radio show there along with Steak Shapiro and AJ Cannon.
Through his years in local Atlanta sports talk, he grew a reputation as a journalist/commentator who tells it like it is. He’s known as “The Dean of Atlanta Sports Talk Radio,” and helped influence and inspire others who would follow as sports radio commentators.
“He truly was a man ahead of his time,” said 680 The Fan’s Nick Cellini, on X Wendesday. “Without him, 790 The Zone doesn’t gain traction in the city of Atlanta. Condolences to his family.”
“I unfortuanately didn’t get a chance to meet Beau Bock, but I am certain that Sports Talk Radio in Atlanta would not be what it is today without him,” said 929 The Game brand manager, Mike Conti, on X.
Shapiro spoke about his former partner and his legacy on his “Steakhouse” show on 929 The Game.
Beau, prior to his passing, was a Sports Analyst at Beau Bock Sports.
RIP Beau Bock.
