CBS Atlanta Serves Up More News For Lunch Hour

WUPA CBS Atlanta has expanded news coverage on the station with a new half-hour midday newscast.

The CBS-owned and operated station launched CBS News Atlanta at Noon Monday, bringing local news, weather, traffic, and more to the half hour between The Price Is Right and The Young And The Restless. The show features anchor T.J. Anthony and meteorologist Johnathan Myers. It will compete with news offerings from WSB, WAGA, and WANF. WXIA airs Atlanta & Company in the noon hour.

“Since launching our local news operation, we have remained focused on building a strong community-centered news brand for viewers across metro Atlanta and North Georgia,” said WUPA President and General Manager Tom Canedo. “Adding a live noon newscast is another important step in that growth, giving audiences more opportunities to access trusted local news, weather, and information throughout the day.”

CBS Atlanta News is in expansion mode as it tries to nose itself into the fiercely competitive Atlanta news market. It airs news at 6 am, noon, 5-6 pm, and 11 pm, which is 3.5 hours of news each weekday.

The station is coming up on its first year anniversary as a CBS station following the network’s departure from WANF last year.
