A new non-profit national media group benefiting African-American-focused public radio stations has launched, and Atlanta jazz station WCLK 91.1 FM is a member of it.

According to its website, Black Public Radio Network “is a national public media collaborative dedicated to informing, educating, and inspiring communities through music, news, culture, and storytelling.” 16 stations across the country are currently members of the network, including Atlanta’s WCLK, New York’s WBGO, Houston’s KTSU, Baltimore’s WEAA, and Norfolk’s WNSB. The organization is accepting donations and sponsorships to help put its mission in action.

WCLK General Manager Wendy Williams told Radio Online the new network creates new opportunities for growth, visiblity and sustainability as well as honors the cultural significance of the member station’s audience.

Clark Atlanta University-owned WCLK is also affiliated with National Public Radio.
