The Top 30 hits on “Power 99” 38 years ago today
hen Z93 left the top 40 radio wars in early 1989, WAPW Power 99 rose up to take its place. With crosstown 94Q being the other hit music station in Atlanta, Power came off as much hipper and risk-taking with its playlist. It launched on March 3, 1986 with it’s first song being Huey Lewis & The News “The Power Of Love”. It would go Alternative as 99X four years later. Rick Stacy was the program director during this time. Top 40 would return to the 99.7 FM frequency in the form of Q99.7 in January 2008.
